It was both an honour and a pleasure to judge for this club. Having judged Shibas since their first appearance in the country and awarded CCs 12 times, including Crufts in 2013, they are one of my favourite breeds. This was a lovely show with a big entry of 80, the venue was great and the hospitality excellent, full marks to Secretary Karen Jones and her team for giving me a super day, my steward Leigh Curtis did a sterling job and should surely have a nomination for Steward of the Year.

Observations on the exhibits today, quality was high on the agenda, only one or two oddball heads, eyes were in the main good, just a few a little ‘full’. I only had one incorrect bite, well done, my main concern was feet, as a multi breed judge the relevant standard is always read before an appointment, I was therefore quite shocked at the poor feet and in some cases over-long nails on a good number of exhibits. The standard says ‘feet’ cat like with firm, tight well knuckled toes, dark nails preferred, many had light nails, this in my opinion, should be addressed.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (5, 1A)

1. Tokumaro No Gomaryuu Go Takarasou at Yokari (IMP)

   This dark sesame has a lovely head with very dark eyes and good expression, well bodied and in lovely coat and condition, very typical in outline, played his handler up at times on the move but sound.

2. Vormund Galileo

   Quality red, again with a lovely head and good type, super coat and presentation and very shapely, again a sound one, close up to winner.

1. Vormund Flash Black - BPD

   Very smart b/t with a lovely head, super outline, very good to go over being well constructed, sound, brisk mover.

2. Lacsar Tic Tac Tayto (IKC)

   Much larger red, good shape, good coat, good neck, not so good going away.

JUNIOR DOG (3)

1. Vormund Xmas Bonus

   Quality red with a super outline, lovely head and eye, shown in A1 condition, very smart mover.

2. Akai Hana Mybu at Yokari (IMP)

   This white must learn to be handled better on the table, pleasing for size, lovely coat, nice for type, ok on the move.

YEARLING DOG (1)

1. Marilouvale Black Raven

   B/t whose head was marred a little by low set ears, good body and coat, lovely character, sound, active mover, bit careless with his tail at times.

POST GRADUATE DOG (3, 1A)

1. Marilouvale Black Knight

   Liked this b/t’s head but eyes a touch full, very pleasing outline, lovely legs and feet, sound, brisk mover.

2. Nizu’s Taichi

   Very large red, head didn’t appeal, feet need to be tighter and movement was poor, shown in lovely coat and condition.

1. Bearpark Galicia - RDCC

   Very impressive red, lovely for size and quality, beautiful head and eye, such a well constructed body giving a beautiful outline, shown in tip top coat and condition, very sound and very active on the move, his feet could be a little tighter but because of his extreme qualities I forgave him this, but it did cost him the top spot later.

2. Shiomaru Escape To The Stars at Galvikki (IMP)

   Larger but very well constructed red, liked his head with good cheeks, well conditioned and sound moving.

   Very pleasing red shown in beautiful coat and condition, liked his head and well constructed outline, good mover too, just needs better feet.

2. Tiblha Im A Conkarah

   B/t, moved up from 3rd in Limit, very pleasing head and eye on this b/t, nice size and lovely shape, good mover but a little straight behind.

3. Trixwood Vision of Both Ways

1. Lacsar Beware of Darkness

   Very well constructed b/t with a pleasing head and well developed cheeks, very well constructed and has a super outline, very good mover too.

2. Hikays Back to Black Ir V Ch

   This 9½ year old has a lovely coat but a poor front which showed up in his movement, not very happy today either.

1. Ch Vormund Gives You Wings - DCC & BIS

   Wow, when he entered the ring and wow again when I went over him, balance is the name of the game with this red lad, loved his head and eye, super neck and so well constructed throughout, good showman and so well shown on the move, he is ultra sound ,brisk and active, looks super going round, his feet could be a touch tighter but minimal and his qualities outweighed this, CC & BIS, very well done.

2. Ch Ken Go Shun’You Kensha (IMP)

   Another lovely quality red shown in full coat and condition, masculine all through and a lovely size, so attractive in head and eye and again so good to go over, on the move he is lovely going round but close behind and feet could improve.

VETERAN DOG (5, 1A)

1. Just Take My Heart to Ruthdales (IMP) - BVD

   Liked him for size and shape, liked his head and type, well constructed and a decent mover, feet could improve.

2. Marilouvale Mischief Maker

   Larger red with a lovely coat, not quite the construction of winner but good on the move, found him a little plain in expression.

1. Tapena Yamamoto Nadesshiko - BPB, RBCC & BPIS

   Super quality red with a beautiful head, eye and expression, lovely neck and top-line, good front and so well constructed, cheeks developing well too, super for size and outline, shown in gleaming coat and condition, very good mover and excellent going round with style and carriage, again feet could be a little tighter but forgiven because of qualities, RDCC & BPIS, well done.

2. Lacsar Pot Kettle Black (IKC)

   Liked this very feminine b/t a lot too, much to commend her, pretty head and eye, good front and neck, lovely outline, shown in excellent coat and condition, very good mover.

   Very pretty headed red, liked her size and shape and lovely expression, very well put together and shows a good outline, shown in lovely coat and condition, very sound and active on the move.

   Another nice red, just a touch plain in head, good neck and front, just a little long in couplings, lovely coat, sound mover.

1. Vormund Xmas in New York

   Quality head on this b/t but eye a touch full, lovely neck and outline, well constructed, so feminine yet with substance, coat just on the blow, sound on the move.

2. Bearpark Femme Fatale

   This red was shown in immaculate condition, good showgirl and a good mover, so pleasing in outline and she has a very pretty head.

   This b/t is most pleasing in head and cheeks, very good outline, lovely body and coat, just a little careless with her tail at times on the move but she is sound.

2. Afterglow Kiki

   So out of coat, so really cannot be assessed, front could be tighter but has good feet, nice in outline, needs time.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (5, 1A)

   Quality red with a very pretty expression, lovely coat and condition, very good outline, sound moving.

1. Rina Wakimi Del Cazadora Blanca at Trixwood (IMP)

   Very attractive b/t with a lovely head and eye, lovely legs and feet, such a good outline, in beautiful coat, ok on the move.

2. Amivike’s Cos I Am Special Too

   Dark red with a lovely head, little long in couplings and straight behind, feet need to tighten and very erratic on the move.

LIMIT BITCH (4)

1. Burwen Billie Jean at Kaytoni - BCC, BOS & RBIS

   My star of the bitches, caught my eye on entering and held it in the challenge, rich red shown in dazzling coat and condition, a credit to her owner, beautiful head, eye and expression, lovely to go over with such a beautiful outline, so well constructed and so very sound, brisk and active on the move, just loved her, won CC, her 2nd I was told and RBIS, very well done and good luck for her 3rd.

2. Jaidev Strike a Pose

   Very feminine red with a pretty head and eye, nice shape and a super tail, lovely body and condition, feet must tighten.

   Quality red in super condition, lovely head and expression, so well balanced in outline, looks good going round but a little close going away.

   Came up from 3rd in limit, little larger mould this one but a lovely type, nice head and a super, well presented coat, lovely body and sound limbs, ok on the move.

   Such a pretty head and eye on this b/t, very well made and good to go over, lovely legs and feet and in super coat, sound on the move but would prefer a better tail.

   Lovely red of superior type, head and eye still appeal, lovely legs and feet, super body, outline and coat, good mover, BVIS.

   Almost 10 and in super body and coat, liked her head and so well constructed, moves well but fails in feet to winner.
